Now and Here

I think it's time to go away for awhile. I need to try a new format. Give myself new challenges.

Ambitious? Just You Wait!

This morning I already drove to Wal-mart in rush hour traffic, got kitty litter, drove home, refilled and refreshened the box, and still made it to work on time. Can I get a 'Booyeah'?

On the Adorability of Howl

The blow up mattress was rolled up and standing in the corner of the room as of 11am. By 11:30am it had slid and fell on the floor in an s-shape. Howl walks into the room and stops. His ears, eyes and whiskers focus intently on the black rubbery form in the corner of the room. He leans as close to is as possible without moving his backlegs. At one point...someone...picked up Howl and put him on top of the shape. Like a spring, Howl bounced from the object to the other side of the room. Where he continued to give all of his intention to this intruder. At one point, someone else puts him on top of his tent tower so that he can survey the mattress from on high. But, when he jumps off, his tower falls ONTO THE MATTRESS!!! SOMEONE SAVE HIS TOWER!!!

Finally, the mattress is picked up and put away in the closet. Howl sees this but does not believe it is gone. He continues to check out that spot for the next hour. Then, he starts asking for sympathy. He comes in and mews, asking for comfort. I pick him up and put him under the covers, where he sulks, then eventually comes to the top for a long nap. By that afternoon, his tent tower has taken the spot of the mattress, and he is still wary that it might have snuck into the lower platform. Like a good little soldier, he keeps a look out for the rest of the night before going back on it.

I Never Did...Oh Wait...Maybe I Did

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket The other night I finished organizing my work/craft/computer/play room. I can hang up pictures, I can work on different projects, all boxes have been sorted and old stuff thrown out. It's such a high. So, last night I went about completing a scrapbook that I started why back in 2002. Yeah, most of the names I forgot. But with memories names don't matter. Kind of like epiphanies: you don't worry about the specifics, just the idea and the inspiration to get you there.

Ooh! Ooh!

  • Realizing that you've never laughed so hard at a tv show before in your life and it's all because they remind you of your family.
  • Hearing "That's so cute!" followed directly by "Suck it in!" more times than I can count.
  • Howl has forsaken mewing us awake in the morning for a buzzard sounding "Eh!" and still had a wet face while he did it.
  • Sophie could not get enough loving and cuddling in yesterday afternoon.
  • Walking up the entire flight of stairs and BARELY GETTING WINDED! BOO YEAH!!!
  • Thinking that I should wear a bird in my hair more often.

Heavy Head and Shoulders

  • I have become involved with the horrible habit of thinking.
  • Making a house a home.
  • Hoping it truly was an imaginary bug my cat was chasing in the litter box last night.
  • Shortened dark wool pants and flaming white socks over black buckle shoes just don't cut it.
  • Thinking about writing.
  • Unless it is a favorite, is it really necessary to keep a book once read?
  • Matching, dust, organization, neatness, usefullness, and unfinished projects: my continuous obsessions.
  • Finding the right costume that suits me.
  • Advancement and becoming more.
  • Making the most of time and finding the energy to do so.
  • To cap it all off I'm deliberating giving up sugar.

They Don't Believe Me

Yesterday it rained and rained. Perfect time to finish reading "Holy Cow" (see my review of the book here). Afterwards, I attempted to start up my sewing machine. Threading the machine isn't the problem so much as threading the bobbin. When I couldn't find the manual, I asked Glenn to help. (Yes, he is quite capable of threading a bobbin.) But we couldn't get the needle and bobbin to work together...so clearly this means I will be dancing naked at Shimmy Fest. ;) Other than that...I'm excited about the possibility of purchasing "The Great Ewok Adventure" on DVD. Oh yeah, and getting to the theatre when it's not crowded...maybe next week? When we saw "Die Hard" the other week, I heard a girl outside say, "This is the first time I've ever had to stand in line for tickets at a theatre in Arkansas."

Painted Face and Glitter

*giggle* I painted all over my face to create a butterfly look. It was funny, but the other faeries gave me a weird look when I was doing it...I think I terrified a certain one when I asked her if she wanted me to do her makeup.

So what if there are a few weeds?! I MOWED THE LAWN!!!

One month ago my husband took four days off to work outside (mowing the grass, edging, cleaning up, etc.). One month ago it rained for four days straight. The grass went unmowed. For one month my husband and I had mono: total exhaustion, back pains, headaches, etc. So, for one month the grass went unmowed...until last night. When I, Utility Princess, mowed it! Even when I felt those three threatening, heavy drops of rain fall; even when those two Jehovah's witnesses walked up the road, looking at me with raised eyebrows; even when I was listening to Prince and shakin' it for all I was worth: I mowed. And then I got pissed, lost focus and mowed over the power cord. Luckily I live with someone who knows how to rewire these things without causing a fire, and did so...with a smirk. I mowed. And then I went to Wal-mart to get pretties for my bellydancing outfit.

Under Our Pillow

Today Sophie took a trip to the doctor to have her fang removed. The bottom half went missing...somehow...and the top half was showing sings of infection. Howl wondered where she was all day. But now she is home, and shoving Howl away from his food and blocking her dish with her belly. All is right with the world. Now, Glenn and I can go about celebrating our three year anniversary ;)

Let Me Sum Up

Today I feel like an old lady. All of my joints have locked up. Seriously, yo! My knees are locked up, my shoulders are locked up, my wrists, my elbows! The odd part is the itch between my fingers. And...I can't sit still!!! I want to get up and run around. Jump! Run! Fart! Splash! In other words, I think I'm FINALLY getting better. I just can't over do it. Can't stay up all night cleaning or working. Can't run fifty million errands this weekend for fear that I will relapse. So, maybe just two? Mama needs some new tops! See?

I have a costume to make! I have gifts to start working on - Christmas is only SIX MONTHS AWAY PEOPLE! HELP ME MARTHA! Oye...
Now A Little Kansas City Sum Up:
  • MAC cosmetics store – I typically only occasionally think about make up. But OMG! Did you know that make-up can be FUN?!
  • Photo shoot – I think it was at this point that I started laughing and didn’t stop until I was drifting off to sleep Sunday night. My tummy was tight all weekend from it.
  • The Kenyan and the Robot – yeah….I think that’s how I’ll remember us starting our own little dance club in back of a bar.
  • That SNL Greek Restaurant skit? Totally true.
  • Shocking a belly dancer as she hears lone zaggureats in the crowd of stiffs.
  • Believing that if I plugged two wires into Lena that she could power my car for the drive home.
  • LAMB! FLAMING CHEESE! OPA!
  • Getting crazy with the purple haired gang from Wisconsin.
  • Betsy! Johnson! Store!
  • “I’m really disappointed in Kansas City math.” Said after we were told to drive down the street we were driving and we would find, like, 80 bars. We turned around twice and finally found the block long side street with five bars, a coffee shop, and a Jerusalem Café.
  • Racks. Lots and lots of racks.

I Had Them Melting in MY Hands

I had so much fun last night as an M&M! Let me explain. My friend Lena asked me if I wanted to dress up as an M&M for an event. Of course I did! So last night I headed up to Rogers....
First there was the terrible accident, so we had to go a roundabout way to get there. Lena said that she needed to call Vinny to tell him that we would be late due to traffic. And I said, "VINNY! We're taking a job from a guy named Vinny?!"
So she and I start shooting "Hey Vinny!" yankee lines back at each other. When we get up there, we walk into the hotel and I notice a guy who TOTALLY looks like a Vinny. AND IT WAS HIM! He took us to a back room where the costumes were.
I was Red and Yellow one was there too, sadly no Green. (Yes, several guys at the event made that comment.) So...I started to change, I didn't bring shorts so I thought I could just wear my undies but the stupid handler for one of the other costumes WOULD NOT leave the room, in fact he took up just staring at us girls change and get into the costumes. And by change I just mean take off our shoes The other girl was nice and let me borrow her skirt so I could put that on and then take my pants off.
So we got the costumes on and then started to play and doing joke pictures before we go out to the crowd. I think I was an animated character in a past life, I really do.
Our job was a sort of welcoming line into the reception for the dinner and we took pictures with everyone walking by. Other characters were there: Tony the Tiger, the Keebler Elf (who fell over TWICE), and the Hamburger Helper Hand. I started hamming it up. Since I was at the beginning of the line, I started walking out to people. Or I'd stand still and wait until they got close and step out with my knee bent and waving my hands, like I'm on broadway. (I got that move down after working at haunted houses.)
I forgot at first that i wasn't supposed to talk. I kept trying to get people to dance with me by waltzing by myself, but they only high-fived me. Finally, the M&M guy Vinny walked up to me and said "You see that old lady over there? I'll give you a box of M&M's if you make her smile."
"Done!"
I start to go over all sneaky. Because you know how sneaky a giant M&M is right? I start hiding behind poles, sneaking a peak at her. She's just staring at me with her mouth open. I hurriedly walk across the lobby and peak out behind a wall. Finally I walk up to her. Not only did she smile, but she also hugged me. Booyeah!
Then I went back to the line to take more photos. I attempted to belly dance but I don't think it turned out too well. That's when we spotted a bunch of guys standing around talking in the lobby. I went over and started gesturing to them. More high fives were had, but I was more worried that they were going to pour a beer onto me.
Then, the girls came. Being a red MALE M&M I had to ham it up! It was a mother with two teen daughters. The mom was scared of me but I eventually got her to hug me. It took persistance, including following her around. The one daughter loooooooooooooooooooooooooooved me! I got her to hug me and dance with me. (It was ace, as Jonny would say.)
That was when I spotted the girls on the balcony, but by this time the Keebler elf was falling over. Time was almost up! So, I just gestured to the girls on the balcony like I was Romeo. Waltzing for them, waving, gesturing them to come down stairs. I gestured towards the elevator and considered riding it up to them but I didn't wanna take a chance that Vinny would tackle me. A few minutes later Lena practically had to drag me out. It was only after I was out of my costume that I heard 'the children' would be around on Saturday. Too bad I won't be around. They'll never know what they missed!
VJ suggested that I "[w]rite a paperback, called, "My Night as an M&M." But I felt that "so many adult bookstores are going to order that book by mistake." I'll take a chance.
Will update with pictures soon!
