News to Me, News to Them?

I don't consider Canada and the US to be that far apart in terms of culture. Except that the US has a need for Ritalin, whereas Canada is good just drinking beer. So then, can I ask a silly question? Why is it when I flip the Google News front page between US Top Stories and Canadian Top Stories, they are extremely different. And I'm not talking about local news either. I've gotten used to looking for US news from many different sources to get the "whole story"; however, why is it that two countries so close, are so different in terms of the information that they recieve. Is Canada Blue and the US Red? Will we ever be purple?
